Feels like sand in my eyes
Your eyes feel gritty. It is as if a grain of sand slipped under the lid. You blink, but the feeling does not go away.
Most often this points to dry eye. Your tears may dry up too fast. Or the small oil glands along your lash line may be blocked, so the tear film breaks up.
Screens, wind, dry indoor air and heaters can add to it. Some pills dry the eyes too, such as allergy pills and some blood pressure drugs. Age, contact lenses, and long hours of close work also play a part.
When to see someone
See an eye doctor if your sight blurs, your eye aches, or the grit lasts more than a few weeks. Go the same day for pus or thick discharge, a very red eye, light that hurts, or the sense that something is truly stuck in there. Say so if you wear contact lenses, or if your mouth is dry as well, since that can point to a wider cause.
Below is a list of remedies that people try for dry eye. Each one has a grade for how much research has been done on it. A high grade means more study, not a promised result, so read the grades and talk with your eye doctor before you start.
