Eyelids feel gritty and burning
Your eyes feel like sand got under the lids. They burn, sting, or itch along the lash line. Blinking does not seem to wash the feeling away.
The rim of the lid, where lashes grow, holds tiny oil glands. When those glands clog or the rim gets irritated, your tear film breaks up fast. The eye surface then feels rough and hot, often worse by evening.
Long screen time, dry air, wind, smoke, and eye makeup can all play a part. Contacts, and skin issues like dandruff or rosacea, are common company for it. Doctors often call sore, swollen lid edges blepharitis.
When to see someone
See a doctor if your vision blurs, light hurts your eyes, or the pain turns sharp. Get care the same day for a lid swollen shut, a fever, or redness spreading onto your cheek. Book a visit too if you wear contacts, lose lashes, or burn for more than two weeks.
Below is a list of traditional and home approaches people have used for sore, gritty lid edges. Each one carries an evidence grade, which shows how much good research stands behind it. A grade is not a promise, so read it with care and talk to your eye doctor.
