Crusty flakes on eyelashes every morning
You open your eyes and the lashes feel stuck. Small crusts or flakes sit along the lash line. Some mornings you have to soak or wipe them off.
This pattern often points to blepharitis, which means a swollen, sore eyelid edge. Tiny oil glands sit in that edge. When they clog, oil, dead skin and germs build up while you sleep.
Dry skin, dandruff, and rosacea, a red rash on the face, can all play a part. Dry eye and old eye makeup add to it too. The lids may feel itchy, gritty or sore, and the problem often comes back.
When to see someone
See a doctor if your sight blurs and does not clear when you blink. Get help fast for eye pain, a very red eye, or light that hurts. Book a visit for a swollen lump on the lid, lashes falling out, or flakes that last for weeks.
The list below holds home and folk remedies people use for crusty, flaky lids. Each one has a grade for how much research stands behind it. A high grade means more study, not a promise of results for you.
