Bloated and full all the time
Your belly feels tight and puffy, even before you eat. Your waistband presses in by noon. The full feeling never quite lifts.
This often shows up when stool moves through the gut too slowly. Waste sits longer, and gas builds up behind it. Your belly can look and feel swollen because of that.
Low fiber, too little water, and not much moving around can all slow things down. Some pills do too, like iron tablets and strong pain drugs. Thyroid problems and pregnancy can play a part as well.
When to see someone
See a doctor if you spot blood in your stool, or you are losing weight without trying. Sharp belly pain, vomiting, or no gas or stool for days needs same-day care. Also call if this bloating is new after age 50, or it has lasted more than two weeks.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies people use for long-term constipation. Each one carries a grade that shows how much research exists on it. A grade is not advice, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before you try one.
