Ankles puffy by end of day
By dinner time, your socks leave a deep ring. Your shoes feel tight. In the morning, your ankles look normal again.
Fluid sinks to the lowest part of you. Long hours on your feet can bring it on. So can a long sit, hot weather, salty food, or some blood pressure pills.
Puffy ankles can also point to the heart. When the heart pumps with less force, fluid can back up in the legs. Veins, kidneys, the liver, or a slow thyroid may play a part too.
When to see someone
See a doctor soon if one ankle swells on its own, or looks red, warm and sore. Get urgent care for chest pain, or if you feel short of breath lying flat or at night. Book a visit if the swelling stays all night, creeps up your legs, or your weight jumps in days.
Below you will find remedies, each with an evidence grade. A grade rates the research behind it, not what it will do for you. Check with your doctor first, since some clash with heart and water pills.
