What does Sorghum bran extract help with? Sorghum is a grain grown for more than 5,000 years . It is a staple food in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Sorghum bran is the outer layer of the grain, sold as a powder or extract. The overall grade on file is D: human proof is weak or mixed. Small human studies looked at blood sugar and cholesterol. The rest rests on lab work and general fiber science. High blood sugar after meals, and prediabetes Early evidence — small human meal studies; no sizes, doses or journals on file. Human meal studies found a smaller blood sugar rise after eating sorghum bran. The comparison was a refined grain meal. In lab work, sorghum tannins slowed the enzymes that break starch into sugar. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 High cholesterol and heart health Early evidence — several human studies, sizes and doses not recorded in this file. Several human studies found better cholesterol ratios with regular sorghum bran in the diet. LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, went down in those reports. Study sizes, doses and journals are not on file here. Evidence grade C · Traditional tier T0 Gut health, bloating and stool quality Not yet tested in people — lab and fiber science only; no human trial on file. Sorghum bran is rich in arabinoxylan, a type of fiber. Fibers like this are known to feed helpful gut bacteria, which is called a prebiotic effect. No human trial of sorghum bran for bloating, stool or the gut lining is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Constipation and sluggish bowels Not yet tested in people — general fiber science; no human study of this extract on file. Fiber is well established to add bulk to stool and speed gut transit. That is general nutrition science, not a trial of this extract. No human study of sorghum bran and constipation is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Weight and appetite control Not yet tested in people — general fiber science plus early non-human work; no human weight trial on file. Fiber is well established to slow digestion and add a sense of fullness. That comes from broad nutrition science, not from a trial of sorghum bran. Early work hints at less fat uptake in the gut, but no human trial is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Cell damage from oxidative stress Not yet tested in people — lab antioxidant measures only. In lab tests, sorghum bran scored among the highest antioxidant levels of any grain. It beat blueberries on some of those lab measures. A lab score is not a health result in people, and no human study is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Long-term, low-grade inflammation Not yet tested in people — lab studies of isolated compounds only. Sorghum bran holds 3-deoxyanthocyanins and condensed tannins. In lab studies, these compounds blocked key inflammatory signals. No human trial on joint pain or long-term inflammation is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Fatty liver not caused by alcohol Not yet tested in people — early research only; no human trial on file. Early research suggests sorghum bran polyphenols may lower fat build-up in the liver. The proposed route is a better insulin response and less oxidative stress. This work is early, and no human trial is on file. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 Metabolic syndrome, the cluster of risk factors Not yet tested in people — studies still under way; no completed human trial on file. Metabolic syndrome means several risks at once: blood sugar, cholesterol, inflammation and weight. Sorghum bran is being studied as a whole-diet option for this cluster. No finished human trial is on file here. Evidence grade insufficient · Traditional tier T0 What Sorghum bran extract has not been shown to do It has not been shown to replace diabetes medicine or insulin. Its high lab antioxidant score has not been shown to slow aging in people. No human study on file shows that it ea

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
