What is Keishibukuryogan? Keishibukuryogan is a time-honored five-herb combination originating in ancient Chinese medicine and formally codified in Japan as part of the Kampo tradition. It is one of the most widely prescribed Kampo formulas in Japan today, available as a standardized pharmaceutical extract. The formula is designed around the concept of improving 'oketsu' — stagnant or poorly circulating blood — which in traditional East Asian medicine is linked to a wide range of women's health complaints. How does Keishibukuryogan work? The formula works through several complementary pathways: it helps relax blood vessels and improve peripheral circulation, supports the body's natural hormonal balance, and has anti-inflammatory effects on uterine and pelvic tissue. Its ingredients work together to reduce spasms in the uterus, modulate estrogen activity, and calm the overactive nervous system responses behind hot flashes. Rather than a single active compound, the whole-formula synergy is considered central to its effects. What forms does Keishibukuryogan come in? In Japan, the most common form is a granule extract (TJ-25 by Tsumura) taken dissolved in warm water, making it easy to absorb. Tablets are also available. Outside Japan, traditional decoctions (boiling the raw herbs) or encapsulated powders are more common through Chinese herbal medicine practitioners. Standardized extract forms used in clinical research offer the most reliable dosing. Where it comes from: This formula first appeared in the classical Chinese text 'Jinkui Yaolue' (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet) by Zhang Zhongjing, written around 200 CE. It was later adopted into Japanese Kampo medicine and has been continuously used for over 1,800 years . In modern Japan, it is a regulated pharmaceutical product covered under national health insurance and prescribed by licensed physicians.

Helps

What does Keishibukuryogan help with? Menstrual pain and cramps: Keishibukuryogan helps relax the uterine muscle and improves blood flow to the pelvic area, reducing the intensity of painful cramps. Women using it consistently often report lighter, less painful periods over time. Uterine fibroids: Clinical studies in Japan have found that this formula can slow fibroid growth and reduce fibroid size over several months of use. It appears to work by improving circulation to the uterus and moderating the hormonal environment that feeds fibroid development. Hot flashes and night sweats: One of its most studied uses is relieving the hot flashes associated with menopause or hormone therapy. It helps calm the nervous system responses that trigger sudden heat sensations, making it a popular non-hormonal option. Menopausal symptoms: Beyond hot flashes, the formula addresses a cluster of menopause-related issues including sleep disruption, irritability, and shoulder tension — symptoms that traditional medicine links to poor blood circulation and hormonal flux. Endometriosis-related pain: Research has explored its use alongside conventional endometriosis treatment, finding it may help reduce pelvic pain and inflammation. It is sometimes combined with standard hormonal therapies under physician supervision. Irregular periods: By promoting better pelvic blood flow and supporting hormonal balance, Keishibukuryogan can help regulate cycle timing and reduce the spotting or heavy flow that comes with irregular periods. Poor circulation and cold hands/feet: The cinnamon and peach kernel in the formula are specifically warming and circulation-enhancing herbs. Regular use can improve blood flow to the extremities, easing the persistent cold hands and feet common in people with poor peripheral circulation. Premenstrual syndrome (PMS): The formula's ability to ease uterine tension, reduce bloating, and calm irritability makes it useful for the full range of PMS symptoms. It is typically taken throughout the cycle for best results. Pelvic congestion and heaviness: Traditional use and modern clinical experience both support its role in relieving the feeling of pelvic fullness or pressure, which is associated with pooling of blood in the pelvic veins.

This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!
