This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Kanakasava is a classical Ayurvedic asava — a self-fermented liquid medicine made by allowing a blend of herbs, water, honey, and jaggery to ferment naturally for a defined period. It takes its name from Kanaka (Datura metel), its primary ingredient, and has been documented in classical Ayurvedic texts for well over a thousand years. The fermentation process generates a low percentage of natural alcohol (typically 5–10%), which acts as both a preservative and a carrier to enhance the absorption of fat-soluble herbal compounds.
The Datura alkaloids (scopolamine, atropine-like compounds) help relax and open the bronchial airways, reducing spasm and improving airflow — similar in concept to how anticholinergic inhalers work in modern medicine. Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica) contributes vasicine, a compound well-studied for its ability to loosen mucus, reduce airway inflammation, and ease coughing. Supporting herbs like Pippali and Licorice add anti-inflammatory and expectorant actions that soothe the respiratory tract and help clear congestion.
Kanakasava is almost always found in its traditional liquid form, consumed in small measured doses (typically 12–24 ml) diluted with equal parts water. Standardized commercial preparations from reputable Ayurvedic manufacturers (such as Dabur, Baidyanath, Unjha Pharmacy) are widely available and generally considered safer than home-prepared versions due to quality controls on Datura content.
Kanakasava is described in classical Ayurvedic texts including the Ashtanga Hridayam and Bhaishajya Ratnavali, where it is specifically recommended for Shwasa (breathlessness/asthma) and Kasa (cough disorders) — conditions corresponding closely to modern asthma and COPD. Datura has been used medicinally across Ayurvedic, Unani, and indigenous American traditions for centuries, primarily for its bronchodilatory effects. Its use in asthma predates the modern understanding of anticholinergic pharmacology by over a millennium.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
