This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Black sesame seeds (Sesamum indicum, black variety) are one of the oldest cultivated oilseeds in human history, prized across Chinese, Ayurvedic, Japanese, and Middle Eastern traditions for their extraordinary nutrient density and medicinal properties. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, they are classified as a Liver and Kidney tonic that nourishes Jing (vital essence), making them a go-to remedy for signs of premature aging such as gray hair, dry skin, and weakened joints. Modern nutritional science confirms they are exceptionally rich in calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, healthy fats, and a unique class of antioxidants called lignans — particularly sesamin and sesamolin.
Black sesame's benefits come from multiple overlapping pathways. The lignans (sesamin, sesamol) act as powerful antioxidants and may support liver enzyme activity and healthy estrogen metabolism. The seed's high calcium and magnesium content directly supports bone mineralization, while its zinc and iron content supports hair follicle health and pigmentation. Anthocyanins in the black seed coat are thought to support melanin production in hair follicles, which may explain the long-standing traditional use for preventing or reversing premature graying.
Whole seeds can be lightly toasted and consumed daily. Ground black sesame paste (neri goma or hei zhi ma hu) is the most bioavailable food form, as grinding breaks the hull and releases nutrients. Traditional TCM preparations include decoctions and congee. Cold-pressed black sesame oil retains lignans and healthy fats for topical or culinary use. Capsule and standardized extract forms are available for therapeutic dosing of lignans.
Black sesame is documented in the Shennong Bencao Jing (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica, ~200 CE), one of the oldest Chinese herbal texts, where it is listed as a superior tonic for longevity, hair health, and kidney-liver vitality. Ayurvedic texts reference black til (sesame) for strengthening bones, improving digestion, and enhancing reproductive health. It has been a daily food-medicine in China, Japan, India, and the Middle East for over 3,000 years.
