This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) is a citrus tree native to Southeast Asia but long cultivated across the Mediterranean, Middle East, and China. Its unripe peel contains synephrine, a natural alkaloid that acts on the body's metabolism and energy systems. It became popular in weight-loss supplements after ephedra was banned by the FDA in 2004, and remains one of the most studied botanical stimulants available today.
Synephrine primarily works by stimulating beta-3 adrenergic receptors, which are involved in breaking down fat and producing heat in the body — a process called thermogenesis. Unlike ephedrine, synephrine has a weaker effect on the heart and blood pressure receptors, making it somewhat more selective in its fat-burning action. This selectivity is why most research suggests it's safer than ephedra, though it still requires caution — especially when combined with caffeine or other stimulants.
Capsules with standardized extract (6% p-synephrine) are the most common and reliable form for dosing. Whole dried peel is used in traditional Chinese medicine as 'Zhi shi' or 'Zhi ke' for digestive complaints, where synephrine content is lower and less consistent. Many commercial fat burners combine synephrine with caffeine and other thermogenics — these blends are more potent but also carry higher risk of side effects.
Bitter orange peel ('Zhi shi' — the immature fruit) has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years primarily for digestive issues, bloating, and constipation, not originally for weight loss. In Ayurvedic and Mediterranean traditions, the fruit, flower, and peel were used for anxiety, insomnia, and skin conditions. The modern weight-loss application emerged primarily after the 2004 U.S. ephedra ban, when the supplement industry turned to synephrine as a structural analog with a more favorable safety profile.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
