This app is so cool! I've always wanted there to be a hub for all NATURAL remedies and preventative options but l've always had to do loads of digging to find the info I wanted for different natural products. HealisticMD has all the info I need in one place. It gave me various natural supplemental options for a condition I looked up, including what each remedy does and how much is usually recommended to take. It also gave me exact products I could buy for the problem I had looked up. It makes my process SO MUCH easier when I need to find non-pharmaceutical solutions to my needs.

There is a wealth of information on the app! I recently had bloodwork done and found I was deficient in a handful of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Iron, etc.) HealisticMD made it simple for me to find out what foods to eat/ supplements I needed to improve these deficiencies. It gives you so many ideas on prevention, natural health tips, where to buy the vitamins, when to take them, why, etc. I love how easy the app is to use too. I am currently working on getting pregnant. I was pleasantly surprised to find compelling data along with supplement suggestions to aid in the process, some of which my fertility doctor wasn’t even aware of. Highly recommend downloading, after all health is one our greatest gifts!

African Wormwood (Artemisia afra) is a fast-growing perennial shrub found across sub-Saharan Africa, from South Africa to Ethiopia. It is one of the most widely used and respected plants in African traditional medicine, recognized across dozens of ethnic groups and healing traditions. Unlike its close relative Artemisia absinthium (common wormwood), it does not contain artemisinin — the potent antimalarial compound — but it shares a rich suite of aromatic and bitter compounds that give it broad therapeutic properties.
The plant's essential oils — particularly 1,8-cineole, camphor, and alpha-thujone — deliver anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and expectorant effects that help open airways, fight pathogens, and ease respiratory symptoms. Sesquiterpene lactones and flavonoids contribute antioxidant and immune-modulating activity, while bitter compounds stimulate digestive secretions and support gut function. Together these compounds explain much of why generations of healers have reached for this plant across such a wide range of complaints.
Tea (hot water infusion of dried leaves) is the most traditional and widely used preparation — it preserves volatile oils and is gentle enough for daily use. Steam inhalation directly delivers aromatic compounds to the respiratory tract and is particularly valued for chest congestion. Tinctures and capsules provide more standardized dosing for broader or longer-term use. Topical poultices and essential oil preparations are used for muscle pain, headaches, and skin infections.
Artemisia afra holds a central place in southern African ethnobotany and is one of the few indigenous plants to have maintained continuous, documented use from pre-colonial times through the present day. It appears in the records of early Dutch and British settlers who adopted it from indigenous healers, and it remains a best-selling traditional medicine in South African markets today. During the COVID-19 pandemic, demand surged dramatically across the continent, prompting renewed scientific investigation into its antiviral and immunomodulatory potential.
What it is typically used for, usual dose, cautions, and the study behind it where real trial data exists.
