Stomach cramps after every meal
You eat, and within minutes or an hour your belly starts to grip. The pain may come in waves, then ease off. For some people it comes with gas, loose stools, or a rush to the toilet.
Eating sets your gut muscles to work. They squeeze to move food along. If a stretch of your gut is sore, swollen, or narrow, that squeeze can hurt.
Crohn's disease is one reason for this. It makes patches of the gut lining swell, often near the end of the small bowel. Other causes are common too: milk sugar you cannot break down, very fatty meals, stress, ulcers, gallstones, or a gut that is simply touchy.
When to see someone
Book a doctor's visit if you see blood in your stool, or your stool looks black and tarry. Go as well if you are losing weight without trying, running a fever, or waking in the night with pain. Get same-day care for pain that is bad and steady, a hard swollen belly, or vomiting when nothing is passing through.
Below is a list of remedies people use for Crohn's disease. Each one carries a grade that shows how strong the research behind it is, and nothing more. A grade is not a promise, so talk with your doctor before you try any of them, mainly if you take other medicine.
