Heart pounding for no reason
You are sitting still, and your heart starts to pound. Nothing set it off. You may feel the beat in your chest, your neck, or your ears.
Many things can speed up a heart. Coffee, stress, poor sleep, fever, and low iron are common ones. An overactive thyroid gland in your neck is another.
Graves' disease is one cause of an overactive thyroid. With it, a pounding heart often comes with other signs. You may feel hot, drop weight, shake, or feel tired but wired.
When to see someone
Get emergency help for chest pain, trouble breathing, or fainting. See a doctor soon if the pounding keeps coming back, or your pulse feels fast and uneven.
Book a visit as well for weight loss you did not plan, a swollen neck, shaky hands, or sore, bulging eyes. A simple blood test can check your thyroid.
Below are remedies people have long used for an overactive thyroid. Each one carries a grade.
The grade shows how much research exists, not a promise of results. Talk with your doctor first, since some may clash with thyroid drugs or tests.
