Feel dizzy when my heart pounds
Your heart starts to thump or race in your chest. Then the room tilts, or your head feels light. You may have to sit down or grab something.
The two often travel together. A heart that beats too fast, or skips a beat, may not fill all the way. Less blood reaches your brain for a moment, and you feel woozy.
The reasons are many. Fear, too little fluid, low iron, low blood sugar, and some drugs can all do it. Standing up fast, thyroid changes, or an odd heart rhythm can too.
When to see someone
Call emergency help if you faint, or nearly faint, when your heart pounds. Chest pain, arm or jaw pain, or hard breathing all need help now. See a doctor soon if it starts during exercise, lasts a long time, or you have known heart trouble.
Below you will find remedies people use for heart palpitations. Each one has a grade that shows how much solid research stands behind it, not a promise of results. Talk with your doctor before you try any of them.
