Can't sit still when your head hurts
The pain starts, and you cannot stay still. You pace, rock, or press your head against a wall. Some people head outside into the cold air at 3am.
This need to move is a clue. Most people with a migraine want to lie down in a dark, quiet room. Cluster headache often does the opposite, and drives you to your feet.
Cluster pain comes on fast and peaks within minutes. It tends to sit behind or around one eye. Attacks often come at the same hour each day, and many come at night.
When to see someone
See a doctor soon if this pain pattern is new, or if it has changed. Get emergency help if the pain peaked in seconds, like a clap of thunder. Do the same for fever, a stiff neck, weak limbs, slurred speech, confusion, a fit, or a recent blow to the head.
Below is a list of folk and home remedies people have used for cluster headache. Each one carries a grade that shows how much research stands behind it. A low grade means the evidence is thin, so read the grade before you try anything.
