Can't lift arm to wash hair
You raise your arm in the shower, and it stops part way. Your hand will not reach the top of your head. Washing your hair now takes two hands, or a long, slow struggle.
This often points to a stiff, sore shoulder joint. In frozen shoulder, the tissue around the joint grows thick and tight. The room your arm needs to swing up is just not there.
It tends to creep in. First comes pain, often worse at night. Then the stiffness builds, and the arm stops going overhead at all.
When to see someone
See a doctor if your arm went weak or numb fast, or if this began with a fall. Get care right away for a lump, a shoulder that looks out of shape, or hot red skin with a fever. Book a visit too if pain wakes you most nights, or the stiffness has not eased in six weeks.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies people use for frozen shoulder. Each has a grade that shows how strong the research behind it is, not a promise of any result. Let the grades guide what you read first, and check with your doctor before you try something new.
