Can't close one eye to blink
You go to blink, and one eye stays open. The lid may sag, or close just part of the way. You may have to use a finger to help it shut.
That eye can feel dry, gritty or sore. It may water a lot. Wind, dust and bright light can sting more than they used to.
A nerve in your face moves that lid. When the nerve swells or gets pinched, the lid muscle goes weak. Bell's palsy is one common cause, and it often comes on fast, over a day or two.
When to see someone
See a doctor today if you cannot shut the eye all the way. An open eye can dry out and scar, and that can harm your sight. Go to urgent care now if you also have a bad headache, blurred sight, sharp eye pain, a fever, or a weak arm or leg.
Below is a list of home and folk remedies linked with Bell's palsy. Each one carries a grade that shows what research has found so far. A high grade means more study behind it, and a low grade means little more than long use and word of mouth.
